The Greenwall Foundation is making a limited amount of funds available to support open-access fees for publications resulting from Greenwall-funded work. These funds will not be awarded as grants, but, rather, will be paid to journals directly.
Open-access publication helps to maximize the impact of bioethics research and supports core principles of transparency and equity. In addition, it helps to build capacity in the field. Through open-access publication, research is delivered to a wider audience that includes bioethics scholars; decisionmakers; and interested members of the public. When bioethics research is available broadly, it is better situated to impact policy and practice and inform future and ongoing scholarship.
Through this pilot initiative, we will fund open-access publication costs for accepted publications resulting from Greenwall-funded projects (i.e., Making a Difference, Faculty Scholars Program, Bridging Bioethics Research & Policymaking, and other Greenwall grants). These costs will be awarded on a first-come, first-served basis until December 1, 2024 or until funding is depleted, whichever occurs first. This pilot initiative will also enable us to better understand the need for such funding as well as the open-access publication landscape in bioethics.
