The Greenwall Foundation is
pleased to introduce Rose Marie Martinez, ScD, as the newest member of its
Board of Directors.
Dr. Martinez is the Senior Director of the Board on Population Health and Public Health Practice at the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine (NASEM), where she has served for 25 years. At NASEM, Dr. Martinez oversees work on the science base of population health and public health interventions, on topics such as the safety of childhood vaccines and other drugs; systems for evaluating and ensuring drug safety post-marketing; women’s health services; health disparities; and health literacy.
With a Doctor of Science degree from the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health, Dr. Martinez is also a former Senior Health Researcher at Mathematica Policy Research, and former Assistant Director for Health Financing and Policy with the U.S. General Accounting Office.
Foundation President & CEO Michelle Groman said, “Rose’s extensive experience and deep understanding of public health and policy will be invaluable to the Foundation. We are excited to welcome her to our Board and look forward to learning from her as we move forward in the coming years.”
Dr. Martinez joins the Foundation’s Board as two veteran members, George L. Bunting, Jr., and Christine K. Cassel, MD, retire from its ranks.
Mr. Bunting, a longtime pillar of the philanthropic community, began his Board service in 2005. He served on the Foundation’s Arts & Humanities Committee from 2005 until that program’s closure in 2011, and played a key role in overseeing the Foundation’s finances and investments.
Dr. Cassel, a geriatrician and longtime professor of medicine, joined the Foundation’s Board in 1992. She would go on to chair the Medical Advisory Committee beginning in 1993, “play[ing] a leading role in some of the most important decisions in the [Foundation’s] bioethics program,” and later serve as Board Chair from 2012 to 2018.
The Foundation is immensely grateful for Dr. Cassel and Mr. Bunting’s vision, guidance, and dedication. Of their contributions, Ms. Groman said, “We are so thankful to George and Chris for their decades of commitment to The Greenwall Foundation. Their wisdom and direction were essential to the Foundation becoming what it is today.”
