Two Greenwall Foundation-commissioned performances of A REFUTATION, with Theater of War Productions, will be hosted in Philadelphia and webcast live on October 23. The production’s premier, which took place in Washington, DC earlier this year, marked the capstone celebration of the Foundation’s 75th anniversary. We are thrilled now to bring A REFUTATION to the city whose story it tells.
Exploring Health Inequities Through Live Performances and Open Public Discussion in Philadelphia

A REFUTATION, directed, adapted, and facilitated by Theater of War’s Bryan Doerries, will feature dramatic readings by acclaimed actors from conflicting historical accounts of Philadelphia’s 1793 yellow fever epidemic and spark guided audience discussions on America’s current health inequities.
Featuring pamphlets, letters, and rebuttals by Richard Allen, Absalom Jones, Matthew Carey, and Benjamin Rush, these special presentations of A REFUTATION will be performed by David Strathairn (Good Night, and Good Luck.), Eric Berryman (Atlanta), and Michael Braugher (The Gilded Age).
The performances will take place at Mother Bethel AME Church, the oldest African Methodist Episcopal church in the nation, founded by Richard Allen in 1794 and the home of his resting place.
