Surrogate decision makers report being unprepared to make medical decisions for others, leading to significant stress. Yet, there are few resources to help them prepare. To help family or friends prepare for this role, we will develop an online PREPARE-Surrogates program. Video stories will show how to start advance care planning conversations with their loved ones, how to communicate with medical providers, and how to make informed medical decisions. To create the program, we will obtain surrogate input in focus groups and in-depth interviews, and test its feasibility.
