Many argue that bioethicists need to be more involved in the policymaking process. These arguments commonly focus on the supply side – the expertise that bioethicists have and why they should share it. But what about the demand side? Do policymakers have an unmet desire to engage with bioethicists and, if so, why and what can we do about it? To answer these questions, Prof. Levine will field an unmet desire survey focused on a nationwide sample of local policymakers, a group of officials responsible for almost $2 trillion in annual spending and who often confront ethical dilemmas related to public health.
