2007 Awards by Greenwall Grantees in the Arts
October 2007

Among the growing number of current and former Greenwall grantees recognized for their considerable achievements are the following artists and arts organizations that received awards in 2007:

Shen Wei, Founder and Artistic Director of Shen Wei Dance Arts, has been named a 2007 MacArthur Fellow.

Cynthia Hopkins received the 2007 Alpert Award in the Arts for Theater

Elyse Singer’s play Frequency Hopping won first prize in the 2007 STAGE [Scientists, Technologists and Artists Generating Exploration] international competition for new plays about science and technology

Big Dance Theater received the First Annual Jacob’s Pillow Creativity Award and Artistic Director Annie-B Parson was awarded a 2007 Guggenheim Fellowship in Choreography

The Foundry Theatre received Theater Communication Group’s Peter Zeisler Memorial Award, which “recognizes an individual or organization whose work exemplifies innovative or untraditional practices, who is dedicated to freedom of expression and has not yet been recognized in the national field for this work.”

These 2006-07 OBIE Award-winners have received Greenwall Foundation support as well:

Beowulf Boritt: Sustained Excellence in Set Design
Michael Friedman: Sustained Excellence in Music
Nina Hellman: Performance Award for Trouble in Paradise
Young Jean Lee: Emerging Playwright Award
Rattlestick Theatre: The Ross Wetzsteon Award (given annually to a theater that nurtures innovative new plays)
